Phil Marshall is Executive Principal at Excelsior Academy in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Originally from Middlesbrough, Mrs Marshall qualified as a teacher in Newcastle then moved to London where she taught in a number of inner city schools. She returned to the North East in 1991 where she held posts in schools in Chester-le-Street and Darlington before being appointed as Headteacher of Sandhill View School, Sunderland in 1997.
During 2000 - 2002 she led Sandhill View through a rebuilding programme as the first PFI Community Learning Centre in the UK.
She was subsequently appointed as Headteacher at Monkwearmouth Sunderland before taking up post as Principal Designate of Excelsior in April 2007.
Excelsior is a new purpose built Academy based on a schools within a school model. It has four small 11 – 16 schools and a sixth form. Each of the five Academy schools is autonomous within the Academy structure with its own School Principal, staff pupils and accommodation.
